What’s Playing - March 2005

I’ve been listening to a lot of good new music lately. I’d like to share some of with you.

Cormega - The Testament
Cormega was a buddy of Nas some time ago although the two have had their differences in the past few years. The Testament was the album he recorded while he was signed to Def Jam but was never released. He recently got the record back from them and has released it on his own. Although the material was recorded back in ‘97 or ‘98, it doesn’t sound dated at all. Songs I really like from the album include Dead Man Walking, Testament, and Love is Love. If you’ve heard Nas’ music I suppose Cormega could be put in the same general category of hip hop as him. But he definitely has a flow and delivery that’s all his own. Give it a try at your local P2P app, BitTorrent site, or record store. Oh he also re-released his first two albums, The Realness and The True Meaning together for the price of one recently. If you like his music you should pick that up, I did. Its labeled Cormega - Special Edition.

Gift of Gab - 4th Dimensional Rockets Going Up
Uplifting hip hop. Gift of Gab is almost the definition of it. Not to mention the ridiculous breath control and rhyming ability that he possesses. The name is not a gimick. This is his first solo album, since he usually works with Chief Xcel his DJ. Together they are Blackalicious. Check out the single from this album, which has also been featured in a Coke commercial.

Gift of Gab - Way of the Light

Anyway, the album is awesome, you can sample it on the iTunes Music Store or Amazon or wherever you download your music. But if you really enjoy the music, then buy the album. I just did and I’m quite happy with it.

The Chemical Brothers - Push the Button
These guys aren’t new to electronic music, they’re legends. If you’ve heard their music before you know what its all about. If not, well, sample it to see if you like it. I’m really enjoying the new album.
