Camino is Coming
Camino is the web browser you should be using if you’re on a Mac. If you know what Firefox is, and if you don’t by now please ask me or someone else, then here is how I’ll explain Camino to you. Camino at its core is built around the same technology that is in Firefox. However, Camino is built for Mac OS X only. That means that it:
- Runs faster
- Looks better – like a proper Mac OS X citizen
- Leverages features only on Mac OS X such as integration with Keychain to store your passwords, Bonjour, the Address Book, and .Mac syncing (soon)
Essentially it provides a much better user experience for most everybody on Mac OS X.
I’m very happy to have met Josh Aas at WWDC. He was recently hired by the Mozilla Foundation to work on and improve Firefox and Camino specifically on the Mac OS X platform. I had already intended to begin contributing to Camino development as soon as I was settled in in Seattle but this has just jump started the whole thing. I’ve already been discussing user interface issues with him and I’ll submit my first patch hopefully within the week.
I’m pretty excited to be working on such a huge project that I personally love and use every day. I hope I’m able to do some worthwhile things for the project.
