Expedia’s New Ad Campaign – Go With Confidence

Update 2/28/07 – Link to a page where you can view the new Go With Confidence Expedia ad.

At long last our new ad campaign is revealed! Our ads have traditionally been sort of funny and always catchy. I’m not sure what it is about Expedia ads that stand out and maybe I am just crazy to think so. I think it may have something to do with being one of the first “dot com” companies to heavily advertise on television and to be one of the very few that still does so with the “.com” in their name. Or it could be the beloved (hated?) and memorable jingle.

That being said, I like the new ad campaign. I especially like the yellow suitcases that Expedia “customers” take with themselves on their trips. I even like our new spokesman. What I don’t like is that we’re no longer using the original Expedia.commmmm jingle. In fact, I’m devastated about this one insignificant thing. Or is it insignificant? Watch the new ad and tell me because I am curious what people think of the new rendition of the old jingle.

You can catch the new Expedia ads at your local purveyor of quality prime time television starting this week, including Deal or No Deal, Late Show with David Letterman, Heroes, Law & Order, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and other fine shows brought to you by the letters E and C, the number 1, and your local cable company.

Sorry John but your never-ending Expedia-hate campaign across the Internet will not stand on my blog. I work at the company and I have yet to meet a person who does not have the customers’ best interest at heart. Travel is a complicated thing to buy and sell and things do go wrong but by and large we are doing right by our customers. If we weren’t we would be in trouble, nobody would be booking with us. Thanks for understanding.

I am still thinking about this and I think its just incredible that you jumped on top of a random blog post about Expedia within 30 minutes of it being posted to post a link to your site. Clearly there must be more positive ways to spend your time.

umm coulda used a link to a new expedia ad on youtube or something. some of us don’t watch any of those aforementioned shows. and now i even skip the commercials on lost, so yeah…tough luck expedia marketing gurus 😉

Yeah I would have linked to one except I couldn’t find any yet. If someone posts it I will definitely link it. Can’t post it myself I don’t think.

When you wrote “I’m not sure what it is about Expedia ads that stand out,” I thought, “What the heck are you talking about?” But when you mentioned the jingle, i thought, “Ohhh yeah! That’s Expedia!” I too miss the jingle – they should’ve used it as a tag to take advantage of the equity already built into it. But I’m sure there was some sort of research or tests before they dropped it. I want a yellow suitcase! 🙂
