If it was just a mile away

Finals are tough. But never underestimate the therapeutic power of good music. Here is a new song that I’ve found inspiration in. Maybe it will do the same for you.

“Heaven” by Nas, from his new album God’s Son

Ramblings

Thursday, November 21st, 2002

< RAMBLE >Big game is coming up this weekend against Stanf***. We better win that’s all I know. Cooking is cool when the food turns out well. Too bad it takes so much time to plan what you’re gonna make, what you need, time all the different things right so they finish at about the same time. As if last year’s stint with the dorm food wasn’t enough to make me never take my mom’s home cooking for granted, now that I’ve got to cook for myself I even more grateful. Day in day out she was doin’ it. Parents are cool, no question.

So its funny how this music thing goes. Although I know plenty of people who never buy music anymore because its just available for free most of the time, I know just as many people who buy the music of the artists or groups that they really love. I have transitioned from the former group to the latter over the last few years. It went something like this: I started out grabbing all kinds of music, tons and tons of it and listening to it. This is different than what I was doing before because the radio isnt good exposure to music at all. As the time passed I realized my tastes in music and I sort of narrowed the scope of things that I was bothering to listen to. Now its down to a point where I know who I’m feeling and when those artists put out good music that makes me feel good or I like to listen to then there’s no question that I’m going to support that artist. It needs to be done so that they will be able to put out yet another album of music for me to enjoy. I’ve just found myself buying more and more cd’s lately. Speaking of which, the latest one I sent for was Canibus - MiClub The Curriculum. If you’re into hip hop you should definitely give it a listen, if not then I’d probably suggest another route as your intro to the genre as Canibus is very intense lyrically. That’s what’s in the “tape deck” (or winamp as the case may be) nowadays anyway. I guess it’s back to work now.< /RAMBLE >

Keep Your Head Up

Saturday, November 9th, 2002

It’s been raining in a lot of places along the west coast and of course Berkeley has been no exception. Gloomy weather has a way of getting most people down and lazy. But I have discovered an antidote for the gloomy weather! You need two things: a room that isolates you from the weather outside and some really good music. It will cheer you right up, or at least, it worked for me. I was so tired last night but I listened to A Tribe Called Quest for a bit and there was no way I could stay down and tired. Music is such a powerful thing. Do not underestimate its power.

Jurassic Era

Sunday, September 15th, 2002

I’m listening to an advance promo of the new Jurassic 5 album. If you slept on these guys with their first major release, Quality Control, back in 2000 let me tell you, you can’t afford to do it again. Watch out for the album Power in Numbers, dropping October 8th. I can’t wait. I’ll post my favorite track later (when I decide on it haha) so people can check it out.

RIAA Death Knell

Oh it seems that the record companies will have to retire soon. What a pity.

Headphone Knowledge in my Head

Thursday, April 4th, 2002

In the past few days I’ve learned a great deal about headphones while looking to purchase a pair for myself so in case anyone was interested in a pair, I can probably help you with those now too :)

Illmatic

Thursday, February 7th, 2002

It rained today, out of nowhere. And here I thought it was going to get warmer. If you like you can check out the pictures page for a few new pictures. I’m also working on gettin a live webcam up instead of the one now that updates twice a minute.

For a long time I had read about Nas’ first album Illmatic being a hip hop classic. I had not heard it, being introduced to him when I first heard the DJ Premier produced Nas Is Like on the radio and grabbing the I Am LP. Well I finally got my hands on Illmatic and now I can also agree that it is a classic album. I just dont get tired of listening to it.

The loser of the day is AOL trying to block off access to the IM network from programs other than their own AIM which is a bloated piece of software that has ads all over it.
